Waiting waiting waiting

As I looked out the window I noticed the line up of trucks waiting to take away their share of dirt to make way for the Barangaroo development.
I really should be spending more time cleaning and less time snapping shots out the window..
Hope your week is traveling along well and your preparations for the silly season going smoothly.

A ship to save the roads...

Barangaroo, update

Come over to the CDPB Face Book page and join in voting for a September Theme Day.
The choices are: people watching; roadworks; or, flower boxes.
Voting closes Friday 24th August.

Sydney's CBD and Port Kembla will be spared 35,000 truck movements, with the  CSL Pacific ship  to take excavated material from Barangaroo by sea.

Lend Lease have commissioned the CSL Pacific to transport the material to Port Kembla for use in land reclamation at Port Kembla's outer harbour development.

Hungry Mile and Barangaroo

The Hungry Mile is the name harbourside workers gave to the docklands area of Darling Harbour East, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in the Great Depression. Workers would walk from wharf to wharf in search of a job, often failing to find one.

A section of Barangaroo, Hickson Road between the Munn Street overbridge and the Napoleon Street intersection, was officially designated the Hungry Mile in 2009.

Where the name Barangaroo came from:
Barangaroo an important indigenous woman from Sydney's early history who was a powerful and colourful figure in the colonisation of Australia. She was also the wife of Bennelong, another important indigenous figure after whom Bennelong Point is named, the site of the Sydney Opera House.

Barangaroo, Part 1

Above is prior to Barangaroo, when it was still a shipping port used by Patrick Stevedore's. Shipping came to an end here in 2006 and was moved to Kurnell.

This area will be turned into the Barangaroo Headland Park, it will be a spectacular place for everyone to enjoy.  It will provide a new vantage point for Sydneysiders and visitors alike to watch the action on Sydney Harbour at the same time as they soak up the atmosphere of six hectares of lush, naturalistic parkland. There will be cycleways and walking paths which will bring people right down to the waters edge where they can touch the harbour in sandstone rock pools.

Below is what it looks like today. Tomorrow I will show the rest of Barangaroo and what plans lay ahead for this area.
