The Coogee Surf Life Saving Club was founded in 1907 by a group of concerned locals who thought that the surf bathers needed protection from the dangers and the vagaries of the surf.

The name Coogee is said to be taken from a local Aboriginal word koojah which means "smelly place". Another version is koo-chai or koo-jah: the smell of the seaweed drying.

This is the head land at Dunningham Reserve North Coogee, looking back over to Clovelly.

 (remembering Sunday was a smoke haze filled day).

Snorkeling

 Sea life to be encountered at Gordons Bay are  Wobbegong, Stingrays, Snapper, Kingfish and the odd Australian Salmon. 

I will take their word for it as I am not about to go in and confirm these findings.

 The beach is very small and contains timber boat racks and boats that provide the bay with a distinctive character.

For a small bay it has huge photographic opportunities.

Today my husband and I walked from Clovelly to Maroubra return, I really didn't feel like as I spent 17 hours at a dance eisteddfod yesterday and was so tired (still am).

It wasn't at its most stunning due to smoke haze that has covered Sydney today.

For the next few days I will share some more of our wonderful coastline with you.
