Warragamba Dam Workers' Memorial







Sadly, a number of men were killed working on the construction of Warragamba Dam, and the Warragamba Emergency Supply Scheme.

In recognition of the 14 men who lost their lives, a memorial was unveiled during the 50th anniversary event by the Minister for Water Phillip Costa.

The men's names, ages, occupations and dates of death are listed below.


Sidney Richard Tunks, 34 years, labourer – 8 November 1938 (Warragamba Emergency Supply Scheme)
George Miller, 44 years, miner – 25 July 1939 (Warragamba Emergency Supply Scheme)
Murdoch Currans, 57 years, pipe layer – 14 November 1939 (Warragamba Emergency Supply Scheme)
Karl Ludwig Gustavsen, 56 years, rigger – 7 May 1946
Harold Raymond Hodgson, 40 years, labourer - 3 November 1947
Patrick William Kenna, 67 years, compressor operator – 22 April 1948
William Frederick Gibb, 27 years, fitter - 21 February 1949
Radoslavo Martini, 28 years, labourer – 31 October 1950
Robert Knox Grant, 48 years, plant operator – 27 February 1952
Ronald Marney, 21 years, compressor driver –17 September 1953
Makovej Andronescu, 29 years, labourer – 23 July 1954
Vytautas Andrikis, 29 years, diamond driller –16 July 1955
Robert Pickering, 29 years, carpenter –19 February 1957
Marjan Palecek, 23 years, carpenter's labourer – 1 May 1958
Raffaele Princi, 18 years, labourer - 21 June 1958
The memorial is located in the Warragamba Dam grounds near the Visitor Centre.
