This is over Panania looking west, with the Georges River running through. On the left is the East Hills Train line and on the right the M5 motorway. The sporting fields in the centre are the Marco and Kelso reserves.

Georges River, Revesby

Looking down on the Georges River and under the wing Revesby. I took the opportunity yesterday as we were flying into Sydney to take some photos. Not the clearest window to shoot through but you get the idea. We also had a turbulence to deal with so I didn't quiet get as many photos as I would have liked.

So I am back in action after hand surgery and a holiday so I will be back around to check out your blogs again soon.

Cattle Duffers

Georges River

Georges River National Parkis 18 km southwest of Sydney. It is set along the Georges River, and is run by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. The entrance to the reserve is on Henry Lawson Drive, immediately opposite the junction with The River Road, in the City of Bankstown. Henry Lawson Drive is a major arterial road within southern Sydney.

Georges River

The Georges River was named after King George III, by Governor Arthur Phillip

The river was first explored by Bass and Flinders in 1795 on their first voyage on the Tom Thumb after their arrival in New South Wales. The exploration led to the establishment of Bankstown .

Alfords Point Bridge

Alfords Point Bridge was opened on the 7 September 1973. The bridge links Padstow Heights in the City of Bankstown to Alfords Point in the Sutherland Shire.

When the original bridge was built, piles and abutments were built next to it (downstream) for future duplication. A second bridge was opened for southbound traffic on 22 August 2008 leaving the older bridge is for northbound use only.

Como Bridge

The original single-track Como Railway Bridge spanning the Georges River began service with the opening of the railway station at Como on 26 December 1885

In 1972, a new concrete dual-track railway bridge was opened to the west of the original Como Railway Bridge to remove the bottleneck imposed by the original single-track design which had reduced service numbers on the increasingly busy Sutherland line. 

The original Como Railway Bridge has since been converted into a pedestrian bridge for use by members of the public as well as cyclists wanting to cross the Georges River. The bridge also now features Sydney Water's pipeline running from Woronora Dam to Tempe.

Tom Uglys Bridge

Tom Uglys Bridge connects Blakehurst to Sylvania, it opened in 1929.

Captain Cook Bridge

The Captain Cook Bridge is one of three major road crossings of the Georges River in Sydney. It crosses at the mouth of the river into Botany Bay.
