More sunrise....

Pig and Sow

Sow and Pigs Reef is a rocky reef in Sydney Harbour. The reef is situated on the eastern side of the main shipping channel between Middle Head and South Head. 

Originally the reef was exposed and resembled a sow and her litter. Explosives were used to reduce the reef, however, now the reef is only exposed at a very low tide. 

A number of ships have been wrecked or damaged after hitting the reef.

A little wet, miserable and steamy!

Not the nicest day to be cruising into Sydney, but I guess it can't always be postcard perfect.

Pacific Pearl

It was lovely to turn around and see the Pacific Pearl coming up the Harbour yesterday.

They normally come arrive at sunrise and depart at sunset, but yesterday it 2pm and I was around to capture it.

Taken a while back when Sydney wasn't having a wet spell. This is the view from Taronga Zoo on the northern side of the harbour.

Endeavour returns to Sydney

Since departing Sydney on 15 April 2011, Endeavour has called in to 18 ports around Australia and welcomed over 70,000 visitors on board including more than 17,000 school children.

On Monday 21 May  Endeavour returned back to the Australian National Maritime Museum after 13 months at sea.

Queen Mary 2 is:

• more than 3½ times as long as Westminster's Tower (Big Ben) is high (310 ft.) 
• only 117 feet shorter than the Empire State Building is tall (1248 ft.) 
• more than three times as long as St. Paul's Cathedral is tall (366 ft.) 
• as long as 41 double-decker London buses (31½ ft. each) 
• Queen Mary 2's whistle is audible for 10 miles
