Croydon Park

jangseung or village guardian is a Korean totem pole usually made of wood. Jangseungs were traditionally placed at the edges of villages to mark for village boundaries and frighten away demons. They were also worshipped as village tutelary deities.

  1. Quite interesting. Do you know whether the totems will be there for a while?

  2. They are a donation from the Korean Community, so I think they are here to stay. They first offered the Jangseung in 2004. So it shows everything takes time.
The first picture was taken at the Korean Festival in Oct in Croydon Park when they were made. It is nice to see the before and after.
